Aims and scope
The Journal of Financial Economics (JFE) is a premier peer-reviewed platform dedicated to advancing knowledge across Finance, Accounting, Economics, Econometrics, Strategy, and Management. It provides a rigorous forum for both theoretical and empirical research that deepens the understanding of financial systems, corporate behavior, and organizational decision-making.
Finance forms the central pillar of JFE, with research spanning corporate finance, capital markets, banking, behavioral finance, international finance, public finance, and sustainable finance. The journal encourages studies that include capital structure, mergers and acquisitions, asset pricing, market efficiency, portfolio theory, risk management, fintech, fiscal policy, and ESG-related finance.
Research in Accounting is also highly valued, particularly studies on financial reporting, auditing, taxation, cost and management accounting, corporate disclosure, and performance measurement. Contributions are especially welcome when they connect accounting practices with corporate governance and financial decision-making.
Economics provides a strong analytical base with coverage of microeconomics, macroeconomics, international economics, industrial organization, labor economics, and development economics. Work that links these areas with financial systems, markets, and organizations receives special attention.
Methodological contributions in Econometrics play a critical role, offering tools to test theory and interpret data. JFE encourages studies that employ time-series analysis, panel data methods, forecasting models, causal inference, and quantitative risk modeling to strengthen empirical research in finance and economics.
Strategic and management perspectives further expand the journal’s reach. Areas such as corporate strategy, organizational design, innovation management, leadership, managerial incentives, and strategic risk management are emphasized, particularly when they intersect with finance, governance, and long-term value creation.
Finally, interdisciplinary research linking finance with the social sciences is encouraged. This includes work on public policy, regulation, institutional design, sustainability, and the broader socio-economic impact of financial systems.
By embracing these interconnected fields, JFE offers a comprehensive platform for academics, policymakers, and practitioners seeking to advance knowledge and improve the role of finance in business, government, and society.
